Storywriting, songwriting, illustration, and then some!

The Build-A-Book Literacy Residency

(A perfect centerpeice for Reading Week activities!)

An exciting in-class program which teaches storywriting and illustration skills from the ground up. Each class will brainstorm characters, plot and setting ideas, and then write the story collaboratively. Next, they’ll create original illustrations for their story. The final product will be a bound book to be housed in the school’s library, and posted on-line at a special website! This highly acclaimed program can be presented in up to four classes per day and conducted over several weeks. (available for Grades 1-12)

Illustration Workshops

Not everyone feels like they're a great artist, but the focus here is on originality - not simply drawing ability. This workshop will help students tap into their creativity and problem solving skills - and have a lot of fun doing it! (ages K-6. 30 student maximum)

Songwriting Workshops

Writing a song is simply a matter of picking something you know about and talking about it honestly. In this workshop, students not only learn the basics of rhythm, rhyme, meter and melody - but also that tying your shoes, missing the bus or eating a gross hot lunch can be the stuff of great music. (ages K-6. 30 student maximum)
