Hey there,
Remember how difficult it is to leave your house during the
wintertime? All that preparation and planning and psyching yourself
up so you can face the weather? Well, I don't want to scare you, but
it would be worth it to mentally prepare yourself in the same way for
these shows happening at AS220 this week. They're just that intense.
You'll pound your fists in the air as Armageddon Shop presents
Clockcleaner, Brain Handle, Breathing Fire and Hulk Out this Friday
night. Clockcleaner is punk music for people tired of punk music,
unpredictable and brutal, definitely not to be missed.
Monday night gets cerebral to the electro-accoustic music of Shawn
Greenlee, SKIF++, Area C and Forbes Graham. SKIF++, a collaborative
outfit from The Netherlands with members from OfficeR, feature
computer music, electro-accoustic improv and video.
Plastic Crimewave Sound, a psychedelic acid punk band out of Chicago,
is gonna get you feeling groovy along with MV +EE with the Bummer
Road and Eyes Like Saucers . By the end of the night, you'll believe
Mars had it's own Summer of Love.
So there you go. Don't say I didn't warn ya.

8:30pm Armageddon Shop presents: Clockcleaner, Brain Handle,
Breathing Fire and Hulk Out
CLOCKCLEANER is a Punk band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The band
consists of John Sharkey III on vocals/Guitar, Karen Horner on Bass,
and Richie Charles Jr on drums. The trio has drawn comparisons to The
Jesus Lizard, Big Black, Nirvana, Flipper and even harsh noise band
Whitehouse. Their influences include Cromags, gg allin, Sun Ra,
Brainbombs, Albert Ayler, and the first Skrewdriver LP. Formed in
2004, Clockcleaner released an EP called The Hassler on the now
defunct Philadelphia hardcore label Manic Ride Records. The album
echoed early 90s noise rock, with high pitch guitar sonics and a
thumping bass sound. Last year, they released a record on Baltimore's
Reptilian Records and now the band has a new 2007 release on
Providence's Load Records. BRAIN HANDLE: "The Pittsburgh band
delivers furious hardcore in the spirit of early '80s pioneers like
Black Flag and the Adolescents, who, when punk was dying, took it up
a notch and raged against authority, boredom and the status quo.
Brain Handle formed three years ago, originally as a side project,
among a group of friends with slightly disparate musical pursuits:
guitarist Jeff Gentle and drummer Mike Ovens came from the metallic
grind band Warzone Womyn; guitarist "Intense" Andy Perlman, from
hardcore band Intense Youth; singer Ed Steck, from an abrasive punk
band with an unprintable name ending in "Mayor"; and bassist Mike
Siciliano, who arrived late, from post-rockers Young Men's Department
(YMD), which Siciliano says was described as "the Butthole Surfers
trying to play King Crimson." As a departure from all that, Brain
Handle was devised as a throwback to something more straight-ahead
and visceral." Armageddon Shop is Providence's premier independent
record store. Located at 436 Broadway on the West Side. (ph/\fx: 401
521 6667). Open Mon-Sat 12-8 pm, Sunday 12-6pm Buy-Sell-Trade New and

9pm Your Roots Are Showing featuring: TBA
** This is the last YRAS for the Summer! This 2nd-Saturday showcase
will return September 8, 2007** YOUR ROOTS ARE SHOWING, Providence,
Rhode Island's monthly roots-twang-Americana series, which started in
2003. YRAS happens on 2nd-Saturdays. Hosted by LUCKY 57, from
Providence: Grounded in post-punk, but with a love of pop and a soft-
spot for traditional country music, Lucky 57 draws on both genres for
a sound that's guitar-driven, melodic, and rootsy--so aptly proven on
the band's debut CD(Looseground Records, 2001), a 9-song collection
of twang-tinged pop produced with Boston rock icon (David Minehan ,
Paul Westerberg, Aerosmith) and Carl Plaster (Old 97s, The Ramones)
-- as a band that navigates the fine line between rock and twang with
hooky, guitar-laden melodies and memorable, well-executed songs.

9pm Shawn Greenlee, SKIF++ (The Netherlands), Area C and Forbes Graham
SKIF++ (from Holland): Robert van Heumen (laptop LiSa) and Jeff Carey
(laptop SuperCollider) are the electronic backbone of the electro-
acoustic sextet Office-R(6) that uses structured improvisation in a
unique way. Forming SKIF in 2004 (because the rest of Office-R(6)
left the building), they work with similar ideas but under a purely
digital pragmatism: sonic bursts, melodic melancholy, and beautiful
carpets using joysticks and self made controllers to keep it all in
line (most of the time). SKIF++ is the collaboration of SKIF and Bas
van Koolwijk's (laptop Max/MSP/Jitter) aggressive attack on the
illusion of video itself. Independently, and processing the SKIF
sound into video, he exposes the face of the machine which lives
behind the often-placating veil of the televised image. SHAWN
GREENLEE (Providence) is a composer and performer of experimental
music. His work centers on freestyle performance with computer
systems for both sound and image. Since 1992, Greenlee has been
standing at the epicenter of Providence’s panicked music scene, and
is best known for his solo electronic music, under the moniker,
Pleasurehorse, as well as for founding and performing in the frenetic
rock group, Landed (est. 1997). Other points of reference include his
membership in the band, Six Finger Satellite (1999-2001), and his
role in Providence's warehouse community of the late 90s including,
the art collective and venue, Fort Thunder. AREA C (Providence) was
formed in 2003 by Erik Carlson. AREA C's compositions examine the
texture and tonal characteristics of sound, working with live loops,
their cyclical relationships, and the details of their decay over
time. The work blurs boundaries between digital and analog as well as
electric and acoustic, foregrounding sound sources from out of the
way places. Using looping tools, effects pedal and real-time tape
recorder manipulation, AREA C strives for the creation of subtle,
textural and dynamic sounds through acts of sonic manipulation,
disintegration and recombination, applied in the studio and during
performances. Improvisation also plays an important role for AREA C,
with live performances often based on extended explorations of
minimal thematic starting points or clusters of note and melody.
FORBES GRAHAM (Providence) has appeared on over 30 recordings,
ranging in style from contemporary classical, metal, and jazz. His
compositions are extremely mathematical, highly contrapuntal,
vivacious, and invigorating, drawing from the cross-cultural
experiences he has lived. His solo trumpet performances explore micro-
climates created from deconstructing the trumpet and the utilization
of extended techniques. He has performed or recorded with a diverse
group of musicians, including Roger Turner, Kayo Dot, The Flying
Luttenbachers, Rakalam Moses, Daughters, Jim Hobbs, Erase Errata,
Thoughtstreams, and Raqib Hassan. He is currently a member of the
Interdimensional Science Research Orchestra and the Full Metal
Revolutionary Jazz Ensemble. He can also be found sitting in with the
Fully Celebrated Orchestra from time to time. Festival appearances
include High Zero, Full Force (curated by John Zorn), and The Wire's
Adventures in Modern Music festival.

9pm Plastic Crimewave Sound, MV + EE with the Bummer Road and Eyes
Like Saucers
PLASTIC CRIMEWAVE SOUND from Chicago is a 4-5 piece space punk unit
lauded in Mojo, Wire, Julian Cope's head heritage, etc. Plastic
Crimewave also does the Galactic Zoo Dossier mag, soundscape duo
Goldblood, Secret History of Chicago Music strip and radio show,
Million Tongues Festivals, sits in with ensembles like Scarcity of
Tanks and DRMWPN, yadda yadda. Mark Lux was in the formative Temple
of Bon Matin and twiddles knobs with Folk and Violence. Nick Myers
also heads up street toughs Vee Dee. Lawrence Peters does everything,
including swell country bands like Hardscrabble and the Lawrence
Peters Outfit. Andy Ortmann is Panicsville, runs the fine Nihilist
label, and does a zillion other sick things. MV + EE WITH THE BUMMER
ROAD: From the deep wilds of New England, specifically lower Vermont
and western Massachusetts, MV/EE and the Bummer Road, an enclave
consisting of Matt Valentine (ex-TOWER RECORDINGS), Erika Elder,
Michael Ehlers and a revolving/evolving auxiliary of men, women, dogs
and stars has been exploring, developing and investigating the lost-
and-found art of what they describe as “lunar blues, sometimes
fingerstyle noise/space” for a few years now. After a host of
recordings issued by various cosmo-song inspired labels, particularly
MV/EE’s own Child Of Microtones imprint, which has released an
awesome array of hand-made CDRs not only of their own exploits but
that of the howling spirit-community they run with, Ecstatic Peace is
positively glowing to announce what may be the heaviest, most sky-
minded recording in MV/EE + the Bummer Road’s oeuvre - a stunning
follow up to the critically acclaimed MOTHER OF THOUSANDS record
released earlier this year and WE OFFER YOU GURU, voted one of the
best avant rock records of 2005 by THEWIRE. “GREEN BLUES may be the
ultimate and most genuine artifact of what the media has proffered as
“freak folk” as it not only makes manifest all that is desirous of
said scene but, in true nature, goes well beyond any known parameters
as such. An already classic and legendary move.” - quoteth Thurston
Moore. EYES LIKE SAUCERS (Providence) just finished a new CD release
for the local Last Visible Dog label. Eyes Like Saucers is the solo
project of Jeffrey K., formerly the farfisa organist for Secret Eye
recording artists - Urdog. With Eyes Like Saucers, the darker and
more organic regions of inner space are explored via a slightly
modified indian pedal harmonium, effected voice, assorted percussion
and electronics. Drawing inspiration from such artists as Nico,
Robert Wyatt, Carl Orff, and early 20th century German poet, Georg
Trakl, the incessant and labored breathing of the ancient harmonium
evokes a bleak and troubled age that, ironically, can best be
surmised as a post-apocalyptic era that we have as yet to arrive
upon. Jeffrey has toured the USA and Europe extensively, and has
shared the stage with artists as varied as Sir Richard Bishop (Sun
City Girls), Circle, Boris, Six Organs Of Admittance, Sunn-o, Jim
O'Rourke, Acid Mothers Temple, and Merzbow.
