AS220/RITS Arts and Mentor Program Coordinator Job Description

This job works at the Rhode Island Training School, the states
juvenile detention facility.
On-site coordination
Coordination of after-school Programs Recruit for and coordinate all
AS220 after-school workshops at the RI Training School (RITS),
including workshops in the YCC and at Rossi House. Facilitate
communication between instructors and RITS staff. Maintain attendance
data, and provide certificates of completion for participants at the
end of class sessions.
Maintain Communication with RITS and AS220 Staff Members
Maintain open communication with all necessary RITS and AS220 staff
members. Act as the liaison between AS220 and the RITS. Work towards
making AS220's arts program a fixture within the culture of the RITS
through communication and programming.
Organize Performance Showcases
Facilitate a Performance Showcase every eight weeks as a culmination
of the AS220 workshop session which highlights and celebrates
students' achievements through the performance and display of their
artwork. Facilitate a review board for student work, advertise and
coordinate activities with RITS staff and AS220 instructors, and
assist with rehearsals.
Supervise the Americorps*VISTA Program
Provide support and supervision for the Americorps*VISTA workers.
Prepare a proper orientation at the RITS and AS220. Assist them in
following their project plans focused on "Transition" and "Event
Planning". Work with the Event Planning VISTA to facilitate
orientation of guest artists, communication with RITS and AS220
staff, publicity for exhibits and events, and other necessary
activities. Publish an informational newsletter or bulletin board
exhibit to showcase our work within the RITS. Fill out VISTA Progress
Reports, Concept Plans/Applications, and other required paperwork as
directed by the Corporation for National and Community Service Rhode
Island office to ensure continuation of the program.
Transition of RITS residents to AS220 Broad Street Studio
Facilitate the transition of residents to Broad Street Studio Check
in regularly with the Transition VISTA to ensure that they are
meeting with interested residents to arrange transition to Broad
Street Studio.
Tracking
Work with the Transition VISTA to maintain the database, and meet
regularly with AS220 staff to track former RITS residents at the
Broad Street Studio.
Mentor Program Coordination
Develop and maintain all documents and publications relating to the
Mentor Program such as informational packets and brochures. Recruit
and maintain a database of mentors. Attend monthly Project Hope
Referral Meetings and Protocol & Implementation Meetings. Interview
interested youth and match them with mentors. Track progress through
regular reports/invoices. Provide mentor trainings, informational
sessions, and community meetings.
Evaluation
On-site evaluation Administer evaluations of residents, AS220
instructors, and other program staff, maintain samples of residents'
artwork, and collect information on class curriculum and attendance.
