I'm sure most of you have heard about our friend Alex who was
brutally injured by police in North Providence last Saturday and are
wondering how to help. Bring your sympathy and get well cards,
donations or anything else for Alex to tonight's show featuring
touring noise and local punk bands, Disaster Strikes, Common Enemy,
Shallow Waters and Civil Defense and get some information on upcoming
events for the cause as well.

The Cold War CD release show this is Saturday night, along with
Triangle Forest, Spanish Dance and Badman. Read the write up about
the band in the Local Anesthesia section of this weeks Phoenix. This
show is guaranteed to bring on the dance dance revolution.

For a peaceful night of crooners, we've got Jason Anderson and Deer
Tick this Sunday night. These guys are great, always touching
everyone in that special place. Get your mind out of the gutter, I'm
talking about the place in your heart! If that ain't enough
sweetness, don't miss The Festival of Quiet next Wednesday featuring
your favorite local bands at a whisper-noise level.

And don't forget, volunteering to work the door is fun, easy AND gets
you a month free pass to AS220 shows (excluding special events)! Sign
up on the list near the bar bathrooms!

Bring on the week!

SHALLOW WATERS is a Power Electronics/Harsh Noise outfit. We reside
in Providence R.I. The idea for this project was conceived in March
of 2005 by Jeff Plummer and Rob Hill. DISASTER STRIKES, on
Alternative Tentacles records. "Disaster Strikes = Municiple Waste +
Dead Kennedys + I Object. Liberty Toast is pissed-off, politically-
charged and, overall, ***** awesome! I suppose one good effect of the
George W. Bush presidency is that a lot of great music is being
created (much like during the Reagan era) as a reaction to his
stupidity. If you like your punk punched full of politics without
sounding preachy, this is a band for you." - (SLUG Zine) WHITE LOAD:

COLD WAR - CD RELEASE! "To our friends and others, thanks for coming
to see us over the past year or so. It means a lot and we really
appreciate it. Thank you for the kind words! We are pleased to
announce the imminent release of our very first record, 'Le Petite
Morte". The thing is being released by the fine folk at 75 Or Less
who live right here in Rhode Island, though not in Providence but we
don't hold that against him. Also, it will be released in the new-
fangled digital format by our friend Tim O'Keefe and his Cozy Music
label. The record is due sometime in August, shortly thereafter
digitally, and we have a very special show coming up to celebrate it.
It is on the Moon. It was recorded by the good people at Machines
With Magnets and hopefully we'll be able to pay them to master it
too. And please check the fine artwork by the lovely and talented
Molly Regan. Thanks Molly! We just wanted to send this little note
out because a lot of you have been asking about the record over the
last many many months we've been trying to finish it. Thanks for your
patience, and thanks for bugging us about it. We hope you really
enjoy it and we think you will. So, thanks again, and you'll be
hearing all about this thing when it hits the streets. Thanks, and
God bless America." SPANISH DANCER: "A juggling act of inhaling smoke
and fogging up mirrors if I've ever seen one. When asked about his
sound, Spanish stares at me blankly and procedes to enthuse the
G.I.S.M Unlawful Hardcore VHS for 30 minutes and discuss how "The
crowd outside that Venom show at Studio 54 looked more like Magnetic
Fields fans". Ok. For all my money's worth Spanish Dancer sound like
an italo disco freakout if Timbaland were at the production wheel
wearing rhinestone studded gloves emulating Material Girl. His
mammoth HUSTLER 12" single sounds like a hailstorm of non-plutonic
needles poking it's way out of the American Underground into the
blinding lights of the universe's surface. I can't tell if it sounds
like Sean Paul or Suicide or both or neither. Forget reinventing the
wheel, Spanish Dancer is reinventing the fucking hook."

8pm Jason Anderson and Deer Tick
A bio by Jason Anderson about JASON ANDERSON: I started touring in
1999. By 2002 I had quit my day jobs and committed to life on the
road, playing shows for at least seven months a year from that point
forward. With the exception of a few tours opening up for friends--
Kimya Dawson, Tilly and the Wall, David Dondero, Mount Eerie--I have
booked every show myself. There have been weirdly long tours, like
the time I was out for five months straight. There have been
awesomely non-traditional tours, too, like the one I did on bicycle
around New England. And there have been wonderfully specific ones,
like my State Series: I've done tours exclusive to Florida and New
Jersey at this point, and North Dakota is in the works. This is not a
joke. It's been slow going, without a booking agent or any real stand-
out press, but at the same time, it's exciting to realize that
everything has been on my own terms, and essentially of my own doing.
Some of the best friends I've made over the last eight years have
come out of dealing directly with the wonderful, inspiring people
setting up shows in living rooms, basements, art spaces, all-ages
clubs and youth centers across the country. I feel that by keeping it
simple, everyone I meet on the road is a friend first and fan second.
There is no line between the two, and that makes me so happy. This
has been a real life-changing adventure, and whether there are five
people or fifty people at the show itself, I give it everything I've
got, night after night. I feel so lucky to be doing what I love. DEER
TICK is the songwriting project or band (depending on how you look at
it) of John McCauley, a singer/songwriter based out of Providence,
Rhode Island. Thanks to the help of Brendon "Viking Moses" Massei,
McCauley has been ferociously zig-zagging across the United States,
hitting all the sparsely attended basement shows, smoky bars, upscale
joints, small to medium size festivals, and everything in between,
since April of 2005. At 21 years of age, McCauley has worked very
hard to get his homemade CD's in players across the country, and has
no plans to stop any time soon. In addition to his own musical
endeavors, McCauley has also collaborated with notable contemporary
musicians such as Viking Moses, Jana Hunter, Nat Baldwin, and Jason
Anderson. Deer Tick is currently signed with Feow! Records out of
Houston, TX. Deer Tick's debut album "War Elephant" comes out
September 4, 2007..

8pm Hi Red Center and more
Formed in 2003, HI RED CENTER are an endearingly odd and distorted
version of a familiar instrumental quartet. Consider a drummer who
swings effortlessly between lurching off-time rhythms and anthemic
beats, a drummer/ vibraphone/electronic/synth player who adds
everything from burbling noise to contagious melodies, a bassist who
lays down the frenzied punch of post-punk with the melodic dexterity
of krautrock, and a guitarist that creates a rich textural fuzz that
makes it rock. They layer melody upon melody, and top it all off with
vocal harmonies reminiscent of an asymmetrical barbershop quartet.
Their music is a dizzying mix of rhythmic smashes, noisy harmonies,
and cultural innuendo that add up to graceful, sculpture- like songs.
Hi Red Center makes music for folks who like to sing, for people who
like to dance, and for everyone who likes their songs thoroughly
mixed and mashed! http://www.myspace.com/hiredcenter
