From chloe at as220.org Fri Jun 6 18:13:27 2008 From: chloe at as220.org (=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Chl=F6e_Mandel?=) Date: Fri, 06 Jun 2008 18:13:27 -0400 Subject: [Events at AS220] Your Lifestyle Guide. Message-ID: <4849B687.8020905@as220.org> Oh, hey, do you like parties? How about masquerade balls? How about huge masquerade ball dance parties with interactive games, art installations, live performances and all the people you ever wanted to see in one beautiful place together having fun? If that sounds right up your alley, you're going to love the Fools Ball, our annual fun(d)raising event, coming at you loud and proud on Saturday, June 28th! Get your $15 tickets online now off our website by clickinghere! or buy them at the AS220 bar. Tickets will be $20 at the door the night of the event, but volunteering for a shift at the Fools Ball gets you in for free, so don't hesitate to send me an email if you want to help out. Thanks! So before you start working on your costume, let's get to this week of events. Tonight is totally surreal with Grass Widow, Lovebird, Dream Bitches, and The Gambys. The Gamby's (formerly The Chumps) may only be able to get soda at the bar, but this young band from Warwick has unbelievable rock power. Jenine Bressner, as Lovebird, has a voice like whisky on an autumn afternoon and just listen to the Dream Bitches song from the sidebar to know you'll love them. Tomorrow afternoon is a very special book signing in the performance space by some activist guy, maybe you've heard of him... If you want to be around for history in the making, check out the new jazz program of the Providence Cutting Sessions on Sunday night. "Providence Cutting Sessions" will display new and original jazz compositions by local musicians and welcomes any jazz musicians to come play with the house trio. Original charts will be made available at performances and online and composers are invited to submit original songs to be performed. Show up and dance with me next Wednesday night when my personal favorite dance band, Javelin, plays withThe Frail, Puff Puff and the Receivers, and Orcabeat. This will be really wild, especially because Orcabeat is actually dance music using the sound of sea mammals. There's so much more to rave about, but, hey, it's Friday night! Stop staring at your computer screen and come out to AS220! This week, it's not just the performance space getting all the action. The AS220 Project Space, located 93 Mathewson St., hosts a special FREE aural and visual treat of Rainbro, Global Credit Squeeze, James Amoeba (and possibly Lexie Mountain Boys) this Sunday evening. If you like no-wave flavored indie rock, you're gonna be so down with UUVVWWZ, a new band from Lincoln, Nebraska. They're playing on Monday night with The Show is the Rainbow and local dance band, Spanish Dancer. Don't miss it! Wednesday night starts off with a Geek Dinner followed by an evening of zine readings. Erick Lyle, of SCAM zine, reads from his new book on squatting and crime joined Cindy Crabb of DORIS zine and the Hope Fund talk about abortion and contraceptive care. The AS220 Gadget and Gizmos Fools Ball is almost upon us! You can still buy your tickets here! or at the AS220 bar. There are still volunteer shifts open to get you in for free, so let me know if you want to help out. Everyone's going to be there, you should be too! Message-ID: <72D6AD4B-924A-48F6-899A-3D5B0FDAC45D@as220.org> Hey everybody! This is a special email to let you all know that there is an important discussion happening tonight at AS220 about our Blanket License Boycott. Have you ever performed at AS220 and wondered why your band couldn't play that Cat Stevens cover? Well, its not because we don't like Cat Stevens. Its because AS220 has a blanket license boycott on the licensing policies of ASCAP, SESAC and BMI. Come tonight to learn more about our boycott! Ask questions! Get answers! Or just sit quietly to hear an intelligent discussion regarding the AS220 Blanket License Boycott. TONIGHT MONDAY JUNE 23 from 6-9PM! -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
