Message-ID: <47F567A8.3080703@as220.org> * Hey there, AS220 friends!* Spring has surely sprung here in good ol' Providence. Something about seeing the sun delivers the memo that you can hold doors open for strangers and stop for pedestrians. Radical! We're getting super nice over at AS220 too, like how about this awesome new format? Isn't it classy? Now I can share more than just the performance space events. It's not perfect yet, but I'm working on it. Check out the side bar for a playlist featuring my picks from bands on our April schedule with songs that can be found online for your listening enjoyment. We also have a new feature that allows you to register and pay for print shop classes online. Just click at our "Shop AS220" link and you're there! Easy! Now on to the events! Much love, Chl?e There's so much going on this week, it's insane! You'll want to join Denimvenom, Sweettheives and The Butcherings to celebrate the five year mark of everyone's favorite local music shop, B Sharp. Rockers don't get older, they just get vintage. Stroll by the AS220 Project Space on a Sunday afternoon for a very special gallery opening featuring a travelling exhibition of work made by incarcerated mothers and our main gallery space for a group show by The Ceruleans. Detroit-based band, Wolf Eyes, is a hurricane tearing up the east coast and they're hitting AS220 next Thursday along with Naked On The Vague, from Australia, and locals, Vvlture and Bellows. Heavy, dude. *Friday, April 4 ** *B Sharp Music's 5 Year Anniversary Party! Their music is comparable to classic cop duos seen in films like Rush Hour and Lethal Weapon. Yeah, yeah...totally, totally. LOL!! Off line they can be seen dancing the Williamsburg streets with MIA and the rest of Generation Y. Think Rotary Connection riding a Tournament of Roses Parade float filled with synths!!! Duran Duran fronted by Stevie B!!! Don't let their small fights fettered with witty dialog covering the cultural spectrum scare you. It only makes it all the more REAL. Provi-DANCE, you aren't ready. The racial academia will blow your fucking mind! Hi-ho Silver! YEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAWWWW!! *Chachi Carvalho* represents Pawtucket -born and raised. He is a first generation Cape Verdean American who comes from a family of singers and musicians. He has been actively involved in the world of music entertainment for over a decade. He has graced stages throughout New England opening for artists such as Talib Kweli, Ghostface, Jurassic 5, Ras Kass and The Movement CV -just to name a few. He was voted one of the top 50 rappers on myspace by Vibe Magazine and was featured in their December 2007 issue. This past January and February he was featured on BET's 106 & Park. There is no doubt, Chachi is on the verge of being a star. Catch him while he's still here. *Dez* hails from Albany, NY. His raps will knock your head clean off. Press photo: His bloody nose bleeds into his beer and still drinks it. *Big City* seems to be New England's most underrated performers/voices. His tones and flow give flashes to a young King Tee and the rawness of Adagio. Originally from Brooklyn, New York he now resides in Fall River. *Wigsplita* is an up and coming hip hop artist on Delusional Records doing shows in support of his current release entitled "Unlimited Thoughts" bringing conscious hip hop to a new level. http://www.joeybeats.com http://www.myspace.com/bigchach http://www.myspace.com/dezfuckinmatic http://www.myspace.com/city http://www.myspace.com/swaynethewigsplita $6 Sunday, April 6, 2008 4-7pm GALLERY OPENING In the galleries. In keeping with its wild-eyed tendency to continuously reinvent itself and its songs, TheseUS's 3 core members for this tour will meet with a different collaborating band the afternoon of every show, work and re-work their set according to the host band's sonic desires, and perform for each audience a quite literally one-of-a-kind set." Deer Tick is the songwriting project or band (depending on how you look at it) of John McCauley, a singer/songwriter based out of Providence, Rhode Island. Thanks to the help of Brendon "Viking Moses" Massei, McCauley has been ferociously zig-zagging across the United States, hitting all the sparsely attended basement shows, smoky bars, upscale joints, small to medium size festivals, and everything in between, since April of 2005. At 21 years of age, McCauley has worked very hard to get his homemade CD's in players across the country, and has no plans to stop any time soon. http://www.myspace.com/theseunited http://www.myspace.com/deertick $6 Tuesday, April 8, 2008 6-9pm Life Drawing Come and draw from a live model. $6 10pm Armageddon presents: Wolf Eyes, Naked On The Vague (Australia), Vulture, and Bellows Halfway through the first decade of the new century brings change to Wolf Eyes. With Aaron Dilloway relocating to Nepal, the band decided to scoop up Mike Connelly of noise kin Hair Police to pick up the slack. Connelly has been in the game since around 2000 with his own tape label Gods of Tundra and sound assault group Hair Police. He moved up to Michigan at the end of 2004 and has been jamming with Olson and Young in various projects, leading up to his introduction into Wolf Eyes. The band's recent shows have been a return to a much more primitive and raw approach to the bands own version of Armageddon (which includes brews and Negative Approach's "Ready to Fight" on repeat). New recordings like "Deranged" and "Droll vol. 19" highlight Wolf Eyes' current state of mind, while new songs like "Leper War" tear it all to pieces. Bellows: Breath/Riff/Metal/Deep. Message-ID: <4807D598.5010503@as220.org> Hey pals, I don't know about you, but I've pretty much totally forgotten about highschool. It wasn't tragic or anything, but there's not much that I can relate to from back then. However, this weeks events are a bit of a throw back to those times. Maybe I was still in training pants when Final Conflict came out with the anti-nuclear song, "Constant Fear," back in '85, but old school punk music will eternally speak to teenage angst. They'll be ungulfing you in apocalypic sound along with young'uns So Unloved, Spring Break, North Korea! and Dead at Dawn this Friday night, so see if your parents will let you stay out late. Then there's Sunday night's Taqueria Pacifica Extravaganza to make the memories start flooding back and probably why details just don't stick in the ol' noggin like they used to. The Taco Truk dudez and ladiez want to take you on a magical journey with all of their various musical projects. OK, so it's not the same as skipping class and riding in a pick-up truck out into the middle of the desert with your hippie friends, but Tyler definitely reminds me of senior class crush material. If you lived on a chicken farm with a family in France when you were 16 like I did, then here's another show to get nostalgic over. Novels, a French alternative rock band, plays with I am the Sea, Shryne and Exiles on Monday night. Man, that was a stretch...
