The Bloodless Coup - 11:30 pm
Tim O'Keefe performing solo tonight at AS220. A mix of downtempo, middle
eastern tinged chill-out & breakbeats. A laptop, analog synth, effects
and mixer, combining improvised mixing of beats, atmospheres and other
sonic elements. Testing out some new solo productions.
Also this evening
Ergo and The Secret Ink:
ERGO from New York City: The blood of Aphex Twin, the bones of Ornette
Coleman and the brains of three lost pilgrims align to form the anatomy of
Ergo. The collective sound of drummer Damion Reid, keyboardist Carl
Maguire and trombonist/laptop-jockey Brett Sroka, Ergos music
criss-crosses glitchy loops and enveloping electronic textures with
plaintive melody and improvisational empathy.
THE SECRET INK, classical-influenced ambient music from New Haven, CT: A
new kind of pop band? Well, perhaps. The Secret Ink is a band that looks
different at first glance. At what point did they decide to put a violin
through a Marshall amplifier? How do they get a cello loud enough to rise
above a drum kit? Does a guitar usually make that kind of sound? Do
classically trained musicians get references to Galaxie 500 and the
Sundays? Do Indie-popsters know what a rallentando is? The Secret ink has
performed in such disparate venues as smoky rock clubs, theatres, art
museums, and symphony orchestra halls.
