SOOOOOOO We will work it into our February Board Meeting to make sure as many Board members as possible will be able to attend. Here's the deal: If you would like a tour, please show up at 5:30pm at 131 Washington Street. Our meeting will begin at 6pm per usual and we would ask if you could please plan on staying until 8pm. This will allow enough time for a Mercantile discussion and coverage of regular Board items. NOTE: We will conduct the full Board meeting in the Mercantile space. And finally, I have attached a compilation of comments received from staff and interested artists for your reading. This was compiled by Angela and sent to you earlier. As I mentioned at our last board meeting, I was going to be reaching out to all of you for some sponsor suggestions for our Foo Fest this year. If anyone knows of businesses, etc. that you feel would like to sponsor the Foo Fest, please email me the name and contact info of that business. Our goal is to have all the sponsorship packages in the mail by the end of this month and no later. I am currently compiling the list of potential sponsors, so your suggestions and help would be wonderful! Thank you so much! Message-ID: <47A77786.30102@as220.org> Hello Everyone! Our next board meeting is coming up around the corner. Next Tuesday, Feb. 12. There are a few important changes to this month's meeting. The first, if you would like a tour of the Mercantile Building, we are asking that you please meet Lucie in front of the Mercantile promptly at 5:30pm. Secondly, we are in the process of updating our AS220 video. One of the updates we'd like to make is a new group photo of the board. It would be great if everyone could make it to this, so that we have a photo of the full board to put into our updated video! You help us out a ton, and we'd like to be able to show you off! I have scheduled Scott Lapham to take this photo at 6pm. So right after the tour, head over to Empire Street, upstairs on the 2nd floor where the BSS rooms are. They will already be set up and waiting for you all! After the photo session, we will be returning to the Mercantile Building for the board meeting. I will see you all next Tuesday! See you all tomorrow at 5:30pm. - Brian January 15, 2008 Meeting of AS220 Board of Directors Present: Richard Welch, Matt Cullina, Clay Rockefeller, Seth Price, John Scott, Brian Jepson, Jonathan Bonner, Laura Travis, Adeola Oredola Absent: Pich Chhoeun, Marlaine Noel, Sam Seidel, Kipp Bradford, Michael Chazan, Kara Orr, Manny Vales Staff: Shawn Wallace, Lucie Searle, Marie Popko, Xander Marro, Angela Ruo 1. Call to Order 6:08 2. Approval of Minutes from the Previous Meeting MOTIONED: Matt SECONDED: Clay SO MOVED 3. AS220's New Managing Director Xander Marro was introduced. She came on as AS220's managing director, and is transitioning into the role. Xander is coordinating the search for Jeffrey Alexander's replacement. 47 applications have come in for this position (Program Director). 4. Development update Angela provided the board with a summary of individual donations for general operations. We have received nearly $19,000 of the $40,000 goal. We need to raise this by the end of the fiscal year. However, individual donors generally give at the end of the calendar year, so we have a challenge here. Foo Fest is June 28. Angela would like to have a membership booth and encouraged board members to participate. We are also working on a membership wall. 5. Transfer of Budget Signatory Power Motion to change the signatory duties for the budget from Shawn Wallace to Xander Marro. MOTIONED: Matt SECONDED: Jonathan SO MOVED 6. Broad Street Update Marie gave an update on Broad Street. Broad Street has been doing quarterly planning rather than yearly which has worked very well. Broad Street is working on filling a new VISTA position. Broad Street is working on a new CD, video. Photographic memory is working with Slater Mill on an exhibit that will be shown throughout the state. Broad Street Sister are working on a clothing line. Seeking to raise $120,000 in the next six months. 7. Mercantile Block Two grants have come in. We are looking to close on April 1st, if we can secure a loan from the city for the entire purchase amount. Lucie has asked for input on how to plan the space, keep the spaces affordable, yet still generate enough income to pay for the building. Lucie would like to arrange a tour of the Mercantile Block for board members. She will follow up with the board via email. A discussion came up regarding the way the block will be used. Seth and Brian mentioned concerns regarding how the space could serve the bulk of AS220's community, in the way the Empire Street space does: bar/cafe? performance space? Brian mentioned Brandon Edens' suggestion about creating a programmed space that's guided by the audience. Seth mentioned that many clubs in NYC are doing just that. We talked about how to gather input for programming the space. A subcommittee was considered, but we also talked about how we could involve more people. We decided to incorporate gathering suggestions in conjunction with a tour; the idea will be to take the things that are a given (affordable housing, historic renovation grandfathered residents) and gather suggestions for what remains. This may involve several tours, so the suggestions will be talked through at the next board meeting. Dreyfus is getting an award from the Providence Preservation Society. 8. Other Angela asked for feedback on the revised board list and on the revised mission statement. 7. Just one final reminder of the board meeting tonight! We have a busy schedule planned. If you would like a tour of the Mercantile Building, please arrive promptly at 5:30pm (at the Mercantile). I would then ask that you plan to head over to Broad Street Studio at exactly 6pm to have your group photo taken for our AS220 video update. Following that, you will need to return to the Mercantile for 6:30pm and we will have some food for everyone. Discussions on the Mercantile will be from 7-8pm. See everyone tonight! It has become apparent that our mission statement does not include the word "uncensored". Lucie and Bert checked into our Incorporation document and even way back then the mission statement lacked the ever-important word UNCENSORED. This seems like a rather simple question, but perhaps we should include this in our newly revised mission statement? It seems strange that it isn't already there, since our mantra has always been "unjuried. uncensored. all ages." Although one could make the case that "uncensored" flows out of "unjuried", it never hurts to be explicit even if it may appear redundant to some folks.
