WHAT IS THE AS220 DARKROOM?
Since 1995 the AS220 Darkroom has continuously offered facilities and services to Rhode Island photographers. We maintain a Group Darkroom with four enlargers which has been used by over 300 amateur and professional artists of diverse ages and backgrounds. Our Solo Darkroom provides the ability to print Black & White photographs up to 20" x 24". This darkroom was created in response to artists who need or want to work alone. We also offer Intro to Photo classes and Pinhole Photography Workshops.
Our year round youth photography program Photographic Memory teaches Rhode Island's underserved youth the craft of photography while gaining real-world experience by working as an assistant on paying commercial jobs. By working commercially these students build business communication skills that will be valuable in a broad range of future fields of employment. Two of our students used their Photographic Memory portfolios to gain entrance to Rhode Island School of Design where they now attend.
