A Tour of Contemporary Cuban Art

Submitted by Geoff on 12-1-99.

On December 9th at 7pm, Luisa Marisy Martinez will be presenting an overview of the cureent Cuban visual arts scene. This event is free and open to the public.
Luisa Martinez

Luisa is a lifetime resident of Havana, Cuba, with impressive resumes for her work as a videographer and as a curator. With the assistance of both URI and RISD, she will be producing a video during her stay in Providence, and she will also take the AS220 stage for two seminars (see below).

Luisa's visit is the first of a series of artist exchanges planned by the Rhode Island Cuba Exchange for Artists (RICE for Artists). This new organization is the brainchild of Howard and Gay Ben Tr , whose hard work and perseverance produced the fundraising and the bureaucratic breakthroughs necessary to bring Luisa here. The Ludwig Foundation also merits a tip of the hat for the work they did on the Havana end of the project.

After five years of providing housing and work studios to the Rhode Island artists' community, AS220 is proud to play a part in bringing these internationally-recognized artists here to share their expertise and experience.
