Labs Membership
AS220 Labs is a membership driven lab space (maker space) and membership dues are our primary source of revenue to cover the cost of rent. Anyone can become a member of the labs, no previous technical experience is required. We currently have 22 members involved with the labs, and we are looking to expand the amount of members. Labs membership comes in three different flavors - lab users, monitors, and key members. They all have different levels of involvement and roles in the labs. The community of users is diverse and brings in people from all sorts of artistic and technical backgrounds. AS220 labs is where art meets technology!

Come stop by the labs and hang out - it's free! Check out what people do here and see if its a place that you would find useful in your life. We are going to be holding monthly open houses, where you can get a tour of everything going in the space (and the printshop and photo space)
Sign Up
Once you decide AS220 labs is the place for you to get creative and nerdy, you must become a member of the Cottage Industries for just $40/year.
With this annual membership you will gain access to all three studio spaces - labs, darkroom, printshop - and be able to reserve time on our equipment. Purchasing an annual membership provides with an orientation that will give you an account on our system, train you on our systems, and also provide safety training on our machines/tools.

Lab Users
Come to a labs meeting, take a course, or reserve time in the labs to work on a project. Build something!
Our digital fabrication tools are currently the only equipment we rent out - the rest is free! This includes the laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and milling machine, and 3D printer (not for rent yet).
Reserving time on the machines in the labs requires that you reserve and purchase a block of time in advance using our online reservation system. The current rate is $25 for 3 hours or $40 for 6 hours. Prices are subject to change due to the democratic nature of the labs.
By-The-Block Members pay as they go, purchasing blocks of time as they need them.
Monthly Members users pay by the month at a rate of $75/month and gain unlimited access to the space when it is open.
Note: All lab members must use the online reservation calender to reserve time on the equipment.
Monitors
Once you've become comfortable with the equipment and attended a monitor training session, you may become a labs monitor.
A monitor staffs the space during a block of lab time (3 hours) and has responsibilities to upkeep the lab. In return, the monitor is given a discounted rate for usage on the equipment and unlimited access during open lab hours (see below for open lab hours).
Monitors contribute both time and money to the labs.
Key Members
A key member also staffs the space during a block of lab time and has responsibilities to upkeep the labs, but also has to attend bi-weekly meetings and contribute to fundraising, labs projects/kits, and developing programming. In return, the key member is given a key to the space and has 24-hour access to the space.
Time and Money Support
There are two options for key members to support, this allows for a number of different people to be able to join the labs.
Option 1: Key Member support the labs with more time than money. Requires 3-4 monitoring sessions and $30 per month.
Option 2: Key Member support the labs with more money than time. Requires 1-2 monitoring sessions and $50 per month.
Key Access: After registering for a key member option and making your first payment, you will recieve a key fob that will give you 24/7 access to the space. If you loose the key, there is a $10 key replacement fee.

Reserving Time in the Lab
Reservation Calender
The labs uses an online scheduling program, phpScheduleIt to reserve time on the equipment. This is the main way of knowing who is using what and when they are using it.
All members must join the reservations calendar to reserve time on particular machines. If you need help scheduling time, email james@as220.org.
Open Lab Hours
The labs is open for public access Tuesday - Friday.
- 1st Block: 10AM-1PM
- 2nd Block: 1PM-4PM
- 3rd Block: 4PM-7PM
- 4th Block: 7PM-10PM
Some blocks might be unavailable due to classes and other labs programming, also changes will be posted a month in advanced. Please check the online reservation system to see block availability.
Note: Public access is also available Saturday and Sunday, but requires that you contact the lab manager, james@as220.org, and make a special reservation. This is due to the lack of monitors to keep the labs open during the weekend. Once we have more trained monitors and/or key members, we will be opening up the entire day on saturday/sunday.
