Introducing the (Arduino-compatible) Fluxamabob Pyramid

fluxapyramid1a.jpg

It's a three dimensional microcontroller! Program it using the Arduino software environment (arduino.cc), hook up buttons/sensors/motors, make it play music; whatever you would do with an Arduino!

A 9V battery tucks up inside, so this is a nice little package for those of you who care about the aesthetics of prototyping. The pyramid is formed with three red, green, and blue PCBs soldered together at the corners. One supplies power, one is the programming interface, and one is the microcontroller interface. The version pictured is a prototype with components we had lying around the Lab. The finished version will have better switches, LEDs and wire sockets. Oh, it also uses the increasingly-popular (though somewhat pricey) FTDI cable to interface to the USB port on a computer.

The first prototype batch will be available to people taking the AS220 Labs Introduction to Arduino class. They should be available in the Shop by the beginning of June.

The Pyramid is the first real product in the Fluxamabob line from AS220 Labs. Fluxamabob projects are all Arduino-compatible, application-specific boards. Next in the Fluxamabob series is a standalone Drawbot kit.
