Fab Lab Scavenger Hunt!

AS220 is actively working on developing the Fab Lab, which will open this Fall. We're in the midst of fundraising and grantwriting, but we realize that there might be surplus equipment or resources out there that could be put to use in the community lab. We would greatly appreciate it if you could take a moment to look over this list and see if there is something that you, your employer, academic institution, etc. may want to contribute to the effort.

Here are some of the things we're looking for:

Core equipment

OK, chances are, no one has an extra laser cutter lying around. It doesn't hurt to ask!

  • Epilog Mini 24" x 12" 35W laser cutter
  • MDX-20 milling machine
  • computer-controlled sewing and embroidery equipment

Electronics testing equipment

We have a bunch of multimeters, but could use a few more. One decent oscilloscope should serve the whole Lab.

  • Function Generator, 10 MHz
  • Power Supply, Triple Output, DC, Digital, 30V, 3A
  • Digital Storage Oscilloscope, 150 MHz, Color
  • multimeters

Electronics workshop supplies

All of these materials will be used for teaching workshops and prototyping artistic electronics projects. We could be interested in older components, as long as they are not too hazardous (no giant mercury switches, please!)

  • resistors, capacitors, chokes, diodes, and transistors
  • regulators, LEDs, photodetectors, speakers and microphones
  • thermistors, op-amps, microcontrollers, resonators, buttons and switches
  • magnets, headers, jacks and plugs
  • ribbon cable, connectors, test clips, antistatic bags, and heat shrink tubing
  • solder and soldering equipment
  • ultrasonic transducers, dc/servo/stepper motors and power supplies (24vdc and 9vdc)

Consumable supplies

  • Vinyl rolls
  • machinable PCB stock
  • batteries
  • Sharpies

Small tools

Also, screwdrivers or exotic precision machine tools...

  • variable temperature laminator
  • 20" Variable Speed Scroll Saw

5 Computers

  • Intel Core Duo Processor 2.33GHz (or equivalent)
  • or Apple iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz (or equivalent)
  • extra RAM
  • 17 inch flat panels
  • LCD projector for teaching and conferencing

Also:

    Old copies of Popular Electronics!
  • Interesting service manuals and tech ephemera

If you have anything on this list that you would like to donate (AS220 is a non-profit), please call Shawn at 401-835-7550, or drop by a Geek Dinner or Make and Break nights. Join the electronics at AS220 list to keep abreast of events and meet new people.

Thank you!
