Prayers For Atheists, the Providence Phoenix Poll's Break Through Act of 2010 and current nominee for Best Punk/Garage Act, just released their full length album, New Hymns For An Old War, this week (Tuesday, May 10th)!
We have a special affection for PFA around here. The band's front-man, Jared Paul, is one of AS220's year-round Artists-in-Residence. He's not only an active musician, but also an activist and avid anti-war protester (with scars to prove it), not to mention, a master of the spoken word and long-time lead organizer with the Providence Poetry Slam.
So it is with great pleasure that we announce that this Saturday, May 14th, AS220 will host the official Prayers For Atheists record release party! Its not official till you hear the rumble across town! Hear the tracks from the LP - the fun kicks off at 9pm! Admission is $8 and as always - its an all ages celebration.
CMJ says, "Prayers For Atheists rocks like early Public Enemy bumrushing a basement hardcore matinee." Sounds good, no? Not convinced? The bill also features local faves: The Rice Cakes, who possess the honor of the Providence Phoenix's 2010 Best of Award for top Local Act and The Jesse Minute bearer of the prestigious title of 2010's Best Garage Punk Band from our same beloved weekly.
If you can't come out and show your support, you can still pick up the new release direct from PFA. They have a couple good package deals online: shirts, patches, posters, etc., as well as a link to contribute to their fund to buy a bio-diesel, hybrid or electric tour vehicle. C'mon out and show these guys some love; cause you know they'd have your back!
