Cactus Attack, Lac La Belle, and The Denver Boot
Cactus Attack is passionate indie folk music.
Lac La Belle is an acoustic group that juxtaposes the early decades of recorded rural American music with decaying Rustbelt aesthetic. A tradition is re-imagined, or maybe just resumed, in the future-rustic swirl of accordian, mandolin, banjo, ukelele, and resonator guitar. The instrumentation echoes another era but is employed for a 'music of now'.
The Denver Boot is fronted by singer, songwriter, & guitarist William Moretti, preforming original Americana roots music. With upright bass player - Johnny 'Custom' Viveiros, pianist & accordion player - Bill Canton. On occasion they are joined by lap steel player - Mike Samos and backing vocalist Maggie Frament both from the band 'The Silks'. With lyrics that have depth and music that can make you move, this dirty country- indie- folk group, ain't your uncles country band.

Writers-in-the-Schools Presents: Young Poets Read at AS220 - A selection of elementary and high school writers reading original works
Young Poets Read at AS220. Come hear elementary and high school-age poets take the stage at AS220. Come show your support for poetry in the schools and in the community. An all-ages lineup of Martin Luther King Elementary and Central Falls High School students will read from their work created with visiting poets through Writers-in-the-Schools, RI as the program celebrates its third year. Student anthologies will be available for purchase.
Writers-in-the-Schools, RI founded by poet and teacher, Tina Cane, brings professional writers into public school classrooms to help students produce, revise, publish and perform original imaginative writing. The program's mission is founded on the belief that working writers bring a particular energy and expertise to teaching writing that awakens the intellect and the imagination while supporting curriculum and strengthening skills. Students learn how to read as writers and write as readers, and about process, craft and genre. They are encouraged to explore language in new ways and, in turn, become increasingly invested and deliberate in how they use words. Children learn to take pride in the power of their words and translate that pride into power. Tina Cane piloted Writers-in-the-Schools, RI three years ago at Vartan Gregorian Elementary in the Fox Point section of Providence. WITS has since expanded and served hundreds of students at several schools in Providence and in Central Falls, including Martin Luther King Elementary School where, this year, poets have been teaching "imaginative writing" to support 4th grade and 5th grade Science and Social Studies curriculum.

Songwriters in the Round: Jan Luby, Tommy Stanley, Hannah Mariotti, and Jenny Goodspeed
Songwriters in the Round is a totally acoustic (no PA) showcasing of the songwriting craft. On the second Sunday of each month at AS220, rotating hosts, Ryan Fitzsimmons , Jan Luby, Jim Tata, and Jacob Haller will find three songwriters to join in and share their work, writing a new song on a theme specifically for the event. The show will run from 6pm to 8pm, and includes 4 rounds of original songs. Roughly a month before the show, each writer scheduled is given a common theme to write on, and is expected to perform a new, original song in the third round. This provides the rare opportunity to see 4 separate writers perspectives on the same subject matter. Two additional writers from the Rhode Island Songwriter Association (RISA) join in each month and a third spot is open anyone, not just RISA members. Anyone interested in performing should email John Fuzek at fuzmek@aol.com or Ryan Fitzsimmons at songwriters@ryanfitzsimmons.com.

Daniel Chase, Erik Hartley, Jesse Emmanuel Smith, and Erin Boyea
Daniel Chase is folk music. He is an observer and a listener above all else and his music is a product of this. A simple interpretation of personal insight and examination turned into song.
Erik Hartley is a soulful singer/songwriter. His songs combine contrasting feelings of spite and infatuation; a musical mixture so tangible that it begs the listener to linger in the melody.
Jesse Emmanuel Smith is a singer/songwriter who has fronted a number of bands. He likes to play rock n roll as well as country and bluesy stuff.
Erin Boyea is a songwriter from Southern RI whose slow moving rock melodies are rooted in original chord progressive movements, with an element of extreme originality. Erin's voice is a sultry blend of Enya'ish tribal inspired soul music combined with the breathy aching vocals of Regina Spektor. Her voice is moving and her keyboard playing enchanting. Erin's performances have enraptured and entranced audiences throughout New England in recent years. She is currently finishing up her first studio album with Walk of The Earth Productions.
