HOT Foil Stamping, ONLY $25.00
Saturday, April 30th, 2-6pm
Hot stamping is a straight forward process; 1) A die is mounted and heated, 2) Foil is positioned above the material to be imprinted, 3) A combination of heat, dwell time, pressure and stripping time control the quality of the stamp. Foil stamping is environmentally friendly due to it being a dry process. It does not use solvents or inks and does not create any harmful vapors. This course provides a four hour introduction to using the newest tool at the AS220 Printshop. Participants must attend this workshop in order to be certified to use this equipment. No materials needed for the first class. This is a demonstration based class. If you have a project, feel free to bring it we may use it during the demos. To sign up visit the AS220 Online Shop.
Instructor, Kat Cummings moved to Providence to study art history and literature at Brown University, but after graduation discovered that she enjoys the ink stains and mechanical hum of the pressroom as much as the clean quiet of the library stacks. Kat works as a commercial letterpress printer, teacher and table clearer; loves fanciful stories, delicious snacks and beautiful objects in multiples; and looks forward to learning how to operate a Linotype machine, translate books and play the theremin.

Here at AS220 Photo we cross paths with amazing photographers and incredible photographs every single day. But it's not every day that we have an Artist-in-Residence like documentary photographer, educator, journalist, videographer and community activist Huascar Robles.
During his stay at AS220 as our Artist-in-Residence for the month of May, Robles will host a special Artist Talk this Tuesday, May 3rd at 7pm, right after our monthly Cottage Industries Open house and will teach our first ever Spanish Language Photography Class!
Robles will also be working on a photo project to document the cultural rituals and celebrations of Providence's Latino and Puerto Rican communities in an attempt to capture the sometimes spontaneous celebrations that often times go unnoticed beyond neighborhood backyards and family dinner tables.
We are incredibly excited to have Robles here for the month of May to share his skills, his ideas and his work with us, and we invite you to join us for the Artist Talk and Open House to learn more about how photography can be a powerful tool to inspire change, insight hope and expose beauty in the average truth and the unknown.

Opening Reception May 1 from 4-7pm
AS220 Main Gallery (115 Empire St)
JustSeeds Artists' Cooperative, a transnational North American artist collective of 26 printmakers engaged in issues of social, political, and environmental justice, bring a traveling exhibition called Resourced! to the Main Gallery. If you've got a sweet tooth for socially-conscious, politically-engaged, radical environmentalists who make art as a means of personal expression and collective activation, YOU'RE IN LUCK.
Joining them are two photographers, Kate Kelley and Jonathan Beller, whose work on the documentary Leh Wi Tok has yielded a collection of photographs of the landscapes and peoples of Sierra Leone. Their exhibition, Resilient, coincides with their new book of the same name, available here. On Wednesday, May 18th there will be screening of Leh Wi Tok and a talk with the film-makers from 6 p.m.- 8p.m. at the performance space at 115 Empire St. A suggested $5 donation for entry.

Reading Room (93 Mathewson St)
Artists Holly Ewald, Lisa Perez, and Susannah Strong present new works inspired by research at the Providence Athenaeum Special Collections, in collaboration with the Hive Archive. I have insider information that tells me images of a sinking circus boat might be a play. Their exhibition is called Artists in the Archive, and you're going to want to check it out.
This Friday from 5p.m.-7p.m. at the Providence Athenaeum, Holly, Lisa, and Susannah will be discussing their work and research with Special Collections Librarian Kate Wodehouse. The Salon is free and open to the public. The Providence Athenaeum is located at 251 Benefit St.
