AS220 Labs now has a complete set of the famous Electronotes newsletter, the seminal analog electronic music publication from the seventies and eighties. It is a great collection of theory, schematics, full-blown synthesizer designs, beginner tips, and obscure analog knowledge. The collection is available for research purposes (and no, we're not putting it online because we aren't the copyright holder).
More about Electronotes here.

Don't know what to do with that old 35mm you're not sure how to fix? Have one too many lenses in your equipment closet or photo junk pile? Bring it all to AS220 this Monday, 7pm at 115 Empire Street for a special Swap and Fix Open House! Join a crew of photo geeks and gear heads for some inside advice on how to use that weird looking camera you found in the garage or trade your once loved camera apparatus for some new-to-you inspiration.
And if you're looking for a real fixer upper, come and help us shine up the Eastman Kodak Century Camera, seen above in it's first public appearance in over 100 years! Bring wood polish, glass cleaner and WD40...while still in near perfect condition, this marvel of pre-modern technology is in need of some serious cosmetic TLC. We ran a roll of film through the camera, affectionately know as the Jumbotron last week, and you may be surprised by the results. Come see history in the re-making!
Darkroom Open Houses are held every first Monday of the month, and is a great opportunity to come see the facilities and get to know the people who use them. Each month we discuss a different topic or hold a special event, so there's always a reason to show up, and this month is no exception! One photographer's trash is another's treasure, so don't ditch that old flash and dig up that defunct Polaroid, cause we're gonna Swix it!
This past Friday the Print shop hosted part two of its first workshop taught in Spanish. We worked with members of non-profit organizations who serve Rhode Island's Hispanic community to exchange ideas and refine this exciting new offering.
The two part silkscreen workshop was a sweet success, with four participants it was a great start to expanding oppurtunities for education and access to the Printshop for folks who live in Rhode Island. Next month we will be offering our first 2 week Silkscreen class taught in Spanish. For more details and to sign up, visit our online store or call us at 401-831-9327.

AS220 Labs produced a limited edition of 5 deluxe drawbot kits last month. We're going to see how it goes before doing another batch, so for now they're Sold Out. Here are the instructions for building the AS220 Labs drawbot kit.
If you find yourself in Washington DC or happen to reside there, stop by at see the Meet Your Printmaker exhibition. We have several pieces in the show, including the Joe Buzzell Editions Project silkscreen you can see above.
For over a year Meet Your Printmaker has been compiling a directory of independent print/printmaking studios around the world through its blog. Meet Your Printmaker shifts the emphasis away from the artist/printmaker and presents the printers/printmakers as a unique workforce ... the groups and individuals who uphold and evolve new and traditional printing/printmaking techniques, whether in the form of commercial work, artist editions or retail products and who share their skills and educate their respective communities.
This exhibition presents a selection of printed matter from 40 print/printmaking studios around the world.
Do you play trumpet, trombone, saxophone, baritone or tuba? Do you want to work with incredibly talented young artists to create a street band sound that is unique to urban youth culture? Yeah? Yeah! Oh yeah.

The Broad Street Beats - a hot new street band born out of as220's Broad Street Studios - will take to the streets and stage at this year's Foo Fest, August 15th. Combining hip hop, samba, and reggaeton, the BSB is all about original beats to make people dance, spit, and bob heads.
The communications team of the Broad Street Studio's summer job program has been learning how to use Movable Type to write blog entries on the AS220 website. Our fist project was to write about what our definition of BSS is. Check it out.

Hello, Please join us, this Thursday, July 16th from 6-8pm, at the AS220 Project Space at 93 Mathewson St. for a lively conversation with exhibiting artist C.W. Roelle. Learn the wonders of wire, cheese, metal detectors & how to read the newspaper! All for Free!
Cubicle Poster Exhibition Pt 1
I decided to have a year long poster show in my cubicle at work. The only rule that I started with was that I had to totally change the posters every two weeks.
For the most part I collect posters that have some kind of Rhode Island connection. Either the concert was in RI, the band is from RI, or the artist is from RI. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part the posters I hung had some kind of RI connection.
The photos I am posting were not taken with a fancy camera under ideal light. Sometimes the photos don't show the real detail of the print, and for that I apologize to the artists.
Thanks, I hope you enjoy. MG
