Apr 2 @ 6:15 pm – 7:30 pm
Evening Yoga Yoga with Jamie Arnold // Thursdays @ 6:15-7:30pm // $13 per class; $60 for 6 classes
March is 2 for 1 Thursdays! Bring a pal and split the cost of class!
Class incorporates a seated centering and focus on breath connection which then leads to a gentle warm-up of the spine. After moving the spine in multiple directions, we will easily make our way to being on hands and feet and eventually flow through a simplified series of sun salutations to get the body warm. We will then explore balance postures, twists and back strengthening exercises and eventually make our way back to the floor for more restorative poses leading to savasana.

Jamie Arnold is a local yoga educator and performing artist. She has been teaching a regular gentle flow class at the East Side YMCA for 2.5 years and has taught yoga in some way shape or form through Squam Art Workshops, Now Yoga & Fitness, Fight2Fitness, Om Kids, Rhode Runner, Studio Exhale and AS220. Jamie received her 200 hour yoga teaching certification in the winter of 2012 through the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, MA. For Jamie, yoga has helped her to truly be in the present moment, let go of stress and feel like weight has been lifted from her body.

Live Bait: Hair @ 95 Empire Black Box
Apr 3 @ 10:00 pm – 11:45 pm

Hair

After instituting a fifteen minute search of whatever sites first popped up on Google, without bothering to check for veracity or accuracy, the following statistics were ascertained:

  • The average American woman will spend approximately $44,300.00 on her hair over a lifetime. That’s “average,” according to the site; blondes will spend $51,000.00. But that’s okay because blonde women earn $870 more on average than brunettes and redheads.
  • Men in the US collectively spend about $1,000,000,000.00 (yes, that’s one billion) per year on shampoos, hair pieces, lotions, pills and transplants in order to fight, cover or “fix” their baldness issues.

Hair. Why do we care about it so? Why so much money? Why so many esteem issues? What is it, really? Dead tissue that keeps growing after we are dead. It’s downright creepy, all of it.

Which is why Live Bait’s theme for April is “Hair.”

If you have a true story that in any way, shape or form fits April’s theme, come to Live Bait, put your name in the fishbowl and, when your name is called, tell it. Remember: no notes, no rants, no stand-up routines, and there is a six minute time limit. Of course, all are more than welcome to simply sit back and listen.

Live Bait is hosted by Phil “The Bald One” Goldman, with banter, musical accompaniment and monthly theme song by Jerry “The Dreadlocked One” Gregoire.
