The class focuses on fundamentals, beginning with a thorough warm up at the barre and progressing to the center for choreographed combinations. Students build muscle as they refine body alignment and learn weight placement to develop coordination. Stephanie’s deep knowledge of her craft combines with a warm, good-humored manner to create a comfortable yet challenging learning environment. This is the perfect class for people who have some prior ballet experience. Stephanie Albanese is a graduate of The School of American Ballet where she studied with teachers Alexandra Danilova, Helen Dudin, Suki Shorer and Stanley Williams. She danced in a repertory company created by former New York City Ballet member Wilhelmina Frankurt. Stephanie has also danced with choreographers Matthew Brokoff, Marcus Galante, Mary Miller and Felice Lesser and also worked in Cabaret, performing at The Lido in Paris and Jubliee in Las Vegas.
The RISD Exhibitionists, the only student run and organized theatre group on campus, present Geoffery Nauffts’ Tony nominated play, NEXT FALL on Feb. 20, 21 and 22 at 8pm in the AS220 95 Empire Street Black Box Theatre. A witty and provocative look at faith, commitment and unconditional love, the story focuses on the five year relationship of Luke and Adam, a Christian and an Atheist, respectively. The play forces us to examine what it means to “believe” and what it might cost us not to.
Salsa Fitness with Mori Granot // Mondays @12-1pm //only $5!
Salsa Fitness was inspired by the love for salsa music and dance and was created to bring awareness to the history of Latin dance and music. Salsa fitness incorporates Afro-Cuban body movement, basic fundamentals of Salsa NY style footwork and techniques from professional dancers training exercises. The music used in the class is an authentic salsa, Latin cha cha cha, and Afro-Cuban music. Salsa Fitness is for EVERYONE and is a unique fun aerobic low impact exercise. You will not only sweat, but you will work on your balance, core straightening, develop stamina, and burn a lot of calories while dancing and learning new moves you can use on the dance floor.
Mori Granot, originally from Israel, has been dancing Salsa for over 14 years. Starting with Ballet, Jazz, and Modern, in 2000, Mori continued her dancing journey with Cuban style salsa. She then learned Salsa on1, La Style, which then led her to Salsa on2, NY Style Salsa, where she fell in love. Besides Salsa, Mori also teaches lady styling, body movement, Casino Rueda, Bachata, and Merengue. Mori is currently teaching at different studios throughout Rhode Island and is offering a new fun workout program called “Salsa Fitness”, which is based on the fundamentals of Salsa on2.

This is a contemporary release technique with a solid base in ballet. Class begins with a full-bodied warm-up designed to activate the core and connect breath with movement while finding anatomically efficient pathways. Structured improvisations and set exercises explore dynamics, weight shifts, and flow to develop a quick mind and a listening body. Class finishes with a vigorous, high-energy dance phrase. Students will be encouraged to explore, take risks, and develop as versatile technicians. For intermediate and advanced dancers of all ages.

Tai Chi is one of the original Chinese Martial Arts. The Yeung Style(from The Yeung Family of Yeung Chang Po) is practiced today throughout the world as an exercise that cultivates mental as well as physical well being. Its slow fluid movements and emphasis on relaxation and internal softening make it an ideal exercise for people of all ages. Our instructor, Bob McManus (Provtaichi.com) has been a student and teacher of The Yeung Style for over 30 years. He recently returned from his seventh trip to Hong Kong, where he studies with the Yeung family, continuing to deepen his understanding of this ancient and effective martial art and health system.

If you’ve always wanted that “dancer body,” but pink tights aren’t for you, make Stretch & Strength part of your routine. Using the fundamentals of Pilates, yoga and dance, this class promises a total body workout to build long, lean muscles and increase flexibility. All fitness levels welcome! Myah Shein is a dance and theatre artist from Chicago. She has trained in a variety of contemporary dance techniques, as well as maintaining a person practice that includes yoga and Pilates. As a founding artistic ensemble member with Red Tape Theatre, she served as resident choreographer and a performer, and performed in work for independent choreographers around Chicago. Outside of dancing, Myah produced the annual Chicago Fringe Artists Networking Night, served as dramaturg and assistant director for various store front companies, and is a makeup artist who designs for dance and theatre. Myah is the Public Relations and Advertising Manager for Trinity Repertory Company and holds a degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana- Champaign in International Studies and French and a post-bac degree from the Dance Center of Columbia College in Dance with a focus in Dance Studies.

Foster or build on your love of movement in this fun and energetic ballet class. This class will introduce a more advanced classical vocabulary, while allowing dancers to recognize their own individuality and body mobility. Focus will be on coordination, placement and fluidity. At the barre, we will warm-up thoroughly and tackle the classical technique with accuracy and precision, while the center floor exercises will focus on simplicity, efficiency and travelling through space. Musicality will be emphasized along with balance, stamina and the strengthening of the body core. This class will develop your technique as well as your means of self-expression!
Danielle Davidson is an independent dance artist, choreographer and educator currently working in Providence, Boston and Montreal. She was trained at L’Ecole Superieure de Ballet du Quebec. Her professional career began upon graduation with Le Jeune Ballet, where she had the opportunity to tour Europe and North America, performing in new works by Thierry Malandain/Biarritz, Jean-Grand Maitre/Alberta Ballet and repertory by George Balanchine, Roland Petit, Jean Louis Morin/Martha Graham Company and Brian Macdonald. Danielle has since performed with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, The Banff Festival Company, Opera Ontario, AmpleMan Danse, Debra Brown, Productions Fila 13/Lina Cruz, Prometheus Dance Company and Zoé Dance. Danielle is also a freelance choreographer and has been commissioned to create works for FDanse, SBDC, Endicott College and Brown University’s repertory dance company, to name a few. She is recipient of le 1er Prix du Jury from Le Festival International de Danse Encore. Danielle has been teaching classical ballet and contemporary/post-modern dance since 2002.
Lunchtime Vinyasa Yoga with Julie Shore // Wednesdays @ 12-1pm // only $5 per class! A one-hour beginner Vinyasa yoga that focuses on the foundations of classical Vinyasa flow, emphasizing movement and breath as synchronized experience. Attention to fundamental asana (postures) will prepare students for their flow sequence and is designed to help beginners develop their own practice.
Open Level Modern Dance with Katie McNamara // Wednesdays @ 6:30-8pm // $13 per class; $60 for 6 classes
This open level class welcomes a wide spectrum of movers who want to explore fundamental physical connections and integrate those within expressive movement. The class begins on the floor in explorations of weight, momentum and range of motion in joints. Moving to a mid-level we will take time to condition the muscles within efficient patterns. In standing we investigate the dynamics of opposition in balance, gesture and weight shift to alas traverse the space across, under and around. All are welcome!
Katie McNamara is a dance artist, a cook, a mother and a teacher. Along with her husband Olase Freeman, she co-directs their company, BaldSoul, within which they strive to find the locus where art and life coexist. Their most recent work is parenting a beautiful boy, Kayin Effie. Katie spent her preliminary professional years in Philadelphia where she danced with Group Motion, Scrap Performance Group and Leah Stein Dance Company. She was deeply influenced by the city’s diverse artistic community and the raw spontaneity of it‘s stage. During this time she also co-founded and directed the Bald Mermaids, named “best new modern dance company” by Philadelphia’s City Paper. Her work has been shown at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Philadelphia’s Painted Bride Art Center, the Carriage House, Galapagos Art Space, the Projekt Theatre (Dresden, Germany) as well as during the Silesian Dance Festival (Bytom, Poland). Her recent choreographic residencies include Rhode Island College Dance Company, Providence College Dance Company, Roger Williams University and Salve Regina University. Katie currently teaches Dance Composition at Dean College and has had a fourteen year career as a Pilates teacher-certified through Pilates Method Alliance. She is pursuing a MFA in dance at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The class introduces new photographers to DSLR cameras. Students will learn fundamentals of photography, how to navigate their digital cameras to control exposure through aperture, shutter speed and ISO, and how to take creative photographs with their DSLRs.
The class will start with an overview of how a camera works and an introduction to general digital terms. Students will learn camera functions and basic photography concepts. Most of the class will focus on learning about exposure. Students will first learn about shutter speed and aperture by using S (TV) and A (AV) priority modes, and finally how to combine both through manual mode. In addition,participants will learn about the pros and cons of ISO, how to read and use histograms, white balance, metering modes and lens options.

Zu-ology is a youth/adult open mic, that empowers expression through words. We try to have unity amongst artists and allow the flow of creativity to be projected onto the mic. The mic allows freedom of voice and is an oportunity for people from all over to connect with one another. Music is power and we allow the power of music to guide not just the artists, but the community all around. This showcase is ran entirely by youth.
Jamie Arnold is a local yoga educator and performing artist. She has been teaching a regular gentle flow class at the East Side YMCA for 2.5 years and has taught yoga in some way shape or form through Squam Art Workshops, Now Yoga & Fitness, Fight2Fitness, Om Kids, Rhode Runner, Studio Exhale and AS220. Jamie received her 200 hour yoga teaching certification in the winter of 2012 through the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, MA. For Jamie, yoga has helped her to truly be in the present moment, let go of stress and feel like weight has been lifted from her body.
