RISD Presents Honey Pot Performance’s “Juke, Cry, Hand, Clap” @ AS220's Blackbox
Apr 13 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Juke Cry Hand Clap (2014) focuses on house music culture as a conceptual ground to explore social practices developed in Black Chicago during the long 20th century. Drawing from music forms such as blues, gospel, disco, and funk as well as dances such as the slow drag, bopping, stepping, the hustle, and line dances, Juke Cry Hand Clap explores “house” as an evolving embodied lineage of African American forms of making community and of cultural resistance influenced by the Great Migration from the rural South to the urban North (1910s through the 1970s).

Apr 15 @ 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Spring is finally here. Let’s celebrate its arrival with a terrific presenter.

Since its founding in 2006, Providence-based Batchbook has helped thousands of small businesses track their contacts, win deals, and grow their businesses.

Along the way, Batchbook has played a key role in pioneering “social CRM,” and founding the popular trade association, the Small Business Web.

At the April Geek Dinner on Wednesday the 15th, Batchbook Founder & CEO Pamela O’Hara and Founding Member & VP of Strategy Keri Calhoun, will give an overview of Batchbook today. She’ll also share some of the hard-won wisdom they’ve gained running a popular B2B SaaS service for almost a decade, and give a sneak peek at where Batchbook is headed next.

TRIGGER WARNING: This play contains explicit content relating to racial violence (including racial slurs, harassment and discussing systemic violence), gendered violence, sexual harassment and sexual assault.

LA NEGRITA CHRONICLES is a comedic satire that delves into the intersection of racism and sexism on college campuses. Through the story of one young woman’s journey, a startlingly accurate reflection of modern American culture emerges.

Opening night, April 16th, will feature a post show talkback with playwright Frania Romulus and director Cathy Braxton. The conversation will be moderated by Providence activist and Editor in Chief at Bluestockings magazine, Chanelle Adams.

Speak Up is a brand new theatre company founded by local New England artists. Our aim to is highlight traditionally unheard voices & stories. We believe that by changing the face of theatre in Rhode Island, by giving people of color, women, the disabled, immigrants, transfolk, or any marginalized person the platform to tell their story, we can be a part of the international movement towards inclusion and justice for all.

Workshop Description
Learn how to use the laser cutter to cut or etch wood, plastics, papers or textiles. This class will cover the basics of using the laser cutter safely, techniques for working with different materials, and software tools for preparing work for the cutter. This is a hands-on workshop; bring a project if you like! We have an Epilog Mini 24 Laser Cutter. The work area is 24″ x 12″, and it can hold items up to 8″ tall. We also have a cylindrical attachment that allows you to etch cylinders such as glassware.
In the first session, you will learn and get trained on the machine. In the second session, you will do a simple project to complete your training on the machine.
After taking the workshop, you will have a solid understanding of what the machine can do and how to design a project. Students will be certified to use the Labs’ laser cutter after completing this follow up session.
