Print Shop Membership
How can I print in the Print Shop?
You must first pay the $40 annual membership fee, which helps us to maintain the equipment and pay our rent.
If you have previous experience in the medium in which you desire to print in the printshop, bring in your portfolio to a Monday night orientation or make an appointment to show us you are proficient (work to be viewed on the merits of technical ability only), and you will be signed off to use the shop.
If you have no previous experience printing, you are welcome to sign up for a class to learn the basics. After the class you will be signed off to print in that medium.
Once you have paid you annual membership and have been signed off to print there are a few more choices to make:
Membership OptionsThese following fees help us stock the shop with newsprint, cleaning supplies, rags, emulsion, oil-based inks for letterpress and intaglio, transparent base for silkscreen, and other shared consumable materials.
KEY HOLDER - $100 a month
24 hour shop access. Responsible for: monitoring open shop hours and teaching monthly orientations, must monitor 12 hours or four blocks a month, attend weekly meetings, and share responsibility for planning events. Hours spent teaching and/or monitoring will count against the monthly membership cost. Key holders have the first option for teaching monthly classes for compensation. Key holders must be knowledgeable of all shop practices and have a working knowledge of all printmaking techniques offered.
MEMBER - $100 a month
Unlimited access during open shop hours, between Noon and Midnight, except when classes are being held. Must still sign up in advance for four-hour blocks of time, to avoid crowding the shop. Members must attend an orientation session before printing, and prove competence in the medium they wish to use by either attending a weekend/weeknight workshop, or by presenting a portfolio of prints made in the technique they intend to use in the shop.
MEMBER/MONITOR - $20-100 month
Unlimited access during open shop hours, between Noon and Midnight, except when classes are being held. Must still sign up in advance for four-hour blocks of time, to avoid crowding the shop. Must be signed off to print in medium of choice. This membership allows you to volunteer your time as a monitor in exchange for a reduction in your membership fees. Each hour you monitor will be in trade for $10 deduction. You must be familiar with all of the equipment and shop practice. Training with a keyholder member is required and counts towards a rate reduction.
PRINT TIME - $25 per 4 hours
May sign up in advance for a block of time : 1pm-5pm, 5pm-9pm, 9pm-1pm, Must attend Shop Orientation, and be signed off by a keyholder in desired print medium (through workshop or portfolio).
AS220 RESIDENTS/STUDIOS/EMPLOYEES - $40 annual fee
Unlimited access during open shop hours (1pm-1am), except when classes are being held. Must sign up in advance. Must be signed off to print in medium of choice. Must donate some prints.
PETITION FOR RATE REDUCTION
If you need access to a printshop but are unable to pay, please contact us so that we can find a solution, be it volunteering time, exchange for prints or other means, this shop is available to everyone.
