Terrastock Revisited

On April 21-23, music enthusiasts from around the globe gathered on Empire Street to witness the sixthcoming of one of the most venturous and original musical genres that exist today. Two stages hosted 35 bands from as far away as Japan, and ticketholders travelled from great distances to experience this unique festival.

This was the sixth Terrastock to date, and after travelling from San Francisco to London to Seattle to Cambridge, MA, Terrastock returned to its roots in Providence, where the first festival was held back in April of 1997. Terrastock has historically been a production of Terrascope Online, but this year Jeffrey Alexander of Secret Eye Records and AS220 took hold of the reins and organized the festival (with a little help of his friends).

The Providence Record Sale & Rock'n'Roll Yard Sale was there in full swing, offering a variety of hard-to-find records and collectibles, including posters, T-shirts, merch.. and, oh yeah and how can we forget those killer vegan cupcakes? There was no cover charge to peruse the 'Sale, which included live entertainment by Christopher Monti, The Aspersions, Mascott, The ‘Mericans, Kaiser Cartel, Jennifer O’Connor, Area C, Mudboy, The Blind King, and other impromptu performances.

The kind folks over at KFCJ flew all the way from San Francisco to broadcast Terrastock over the radio- and webwaves. Stationed in the basement of Perishable Theatre, they fed the sounds of Empire Street to the masses via their website and (actual!) California radio station. They also provided live video and audio feed between venues, which was awesome. Thanks, KFJC!

Much thanks is also due to Amir Malik, who helped tremendously to organize this festival, and thanks to Alfred Butler and the Trinity Rep. folks for allowing us to use the Pell Chafee Performing Arts Center.BSR was in the house, lending helping hands that was greatly appreciated. Also, we couldn't have done this fest without the help of our wonderful staff of house managers, sound engineers and door volunteers. Last but not least, we owe it all to the one and only Chlöe Mandel, who is so amazing that only the future could be responsible for creating such a creature.

Above all, thanks to all the bands and performers for creating such amazing shit and coming to our little city to blow our brains out with it. Keep on rockin' in the free world, y'alls!
