Staff: Bert, Robin, Rachel, Tina, Ray 1) Steve: Call to order, 6:10pm 2) Approval of the Minutes: MOTIONED: Sean SECONDED: Jonathan SO MOVED 3) Nominating Committee report * We are looking for a Treasurer 4) Board Chair report (Steve) * Congratulations to Sara, who has been appointed Executive Director of Rhode Island. Unfortunately, she will be stepping down from the Board. * Ray Davey, Poet Laureate of Providence, is joining Broad Street Studio as the new General Manager (Sam continues as the Director). 5) Fiscal Report (Sean) * Next Board meeting will see quarterly and YTD report * Quarter closed $7K unfavorable to budget * By May 15, budget for next year will be ready for the board * By June meeting, we hope to have something to approve * Finance committee meets prior to Board meeting, and all are welcome 6) Capital Campaign Report (Bert) * Lucie is on vacation * Brought BankRI through AS220, and asked for $50K (they've never done more than $30K). They are going to give us $50K, but will structure it as a loan (to be forgiven) rather than as a charitable gift. 7) Fools Ball Report (Robin, Rachel, Tina, Winsor, Myron) * Received a $5K grant for the cost of the tent * Got an update on new sponsors, including media sponsors (NBC 10 will give us fifteen 30-second spots and an interview on the day of the Fools Ball, and the Phoenix is donating ad space) * Ticket sales, ads are going well. * We have permission to put a tent on Empire Street * Members of the Narragansett Tribe will return for security detail * We will be open until 2am 8) Director's Report (Bert) * Bert introduced Mariah, Youth Engagement Coordinator ("boss of the youth") at Broad Street Studio ROBIN: I think I probably don't have her name right. * Broad Street update: - External funding is slipping in some places - Pursuing sustainability (Product Development, looking into working with the Department of Education) * Rhode Island Foundation Project: - We've been getting great press on this - Outstanding review on last show - Kudos to Neal * Press Update: - NYT Mention of Cynthia Hopkins' play, developed at AS22 (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F50D13F63F540C768EDDAA0894DC404482) * Restructuring: - Open question: how do we arm Board members with info so they can explain to people what's going on? - Broad Street Studio office moving to Empire Street - Some Broad Street Studio operations will be at Empire Street - In the afternoon, Broad Street Studio staff will head over to Broad Street * Dark room, with support from RISD, under construction * Silkscreen shop is coming along * Empire Street to become more of a hub of activity * Dreyfus Building: - In negotiations with Johnson and Wales - Live/work studios, full historic renovation - High-end users on first floor - Johnson and Wales very supportive to help us get the resources we need. * Had a general discussion about how to get breaking info out quickly to Board members - Formed a Communications Committee: Bert, Winsor, Myron, Michael, Natalia, Shawn, Sam, Brian 9) New business * None 10) Old Business * None 11) Adjourned at 7:28 MOTIONED: Sean SECONDED: Michael SO MOVED
