It is Broad Street Studio's mission, in cooperation with DCYF and the Rhode Island Training School, to provide young people with positive role models to enhance their personal development. We match mentors with youth coming out of the Training School, with the expectation that mentors will provide emotional support to mentees, as well as assistance accessing community resources.
Being a mentor is, at minimum, a 6-month commitment. When possible, we match youth with mentors 3-months prior to their release from the RITS. Mentors continue working with youth for at least 3 months after release. The time commitment is at least 2 hours a week. Mentors are reimbursed for $12/hour to cover expenses incurred during the mentorship.
If you're interested in becoming a mentor, you will need to submit a reference and two personal references. We also do background checks on all mentors. While individuals with a criminal record are welcome to apply, you cannot currently be on probation or have pending charges.
